Zhengbin Fishing Port
Zhengbin Fishing Port, located at the south of Heping Island, is considerably more laid back. The Port is built by the Japanese in 1934, and it was the biggest fishing port in Taiwan during the Japanese era. Although it gradually diminished afterward, its down-to-earth appearance endures. The city is actively seeking to preserve it as a place for relaxation and nostalgia. There has been a boat named “Folk Art” at Zhengbin Fishing Port Nostalgia Pier. It was the first art museum on the sea. Besides, there has been also held dragon boat race and some activities, which were quite popular.
Heping Island, Keelung
Heping Island is originally named as “She-liao island”. Heping Island is the doorway to Keelung Harbor. It was a settlement of Kaitaglan Tribe at the early times. Currently, a seashore park was set up along with the coast. Inside the park, one will see the important terrain of marine abrasion, including marine cliff, abrasion platform, and abrasion fosse as well as the famous “bean curd rock” and pedestal rock. Apart from the spectacular terrain, the body fossil and trace fossils are considered treasures for geological studies. Be sure to take a good look at the seashore plants for it is amazing that they can survive under the unfavorable conditions. During the ebb, one can step on the abrasion platform to see the strand plants and all the different rocks and stones. Take a break to sit down on the rock to listen to the waves and enjoy the amazing gift of nature. However, please do not go down to the marine cliff for the rock otherwise that might break down at any moment.
Ershawan Fort
Ershawan Fort is also named "Haimen Tiansian" and is located on the top of Ershawan Mountain near the east harbor of Keelung. Following the traditional construction method to build city gate, the front door of the platform was built by stones along the mountain, which is very splendid. Above the gate is a tablet that shows "Haimen Tiansian," which means very dangerous gate to the ocean. The strategic value of the fort explains why it was chosen to be a military base during the Ching dynasty. Visitors can view Keelung Harbor from the fort to feel its significance. The trees along the footpath around the fort make it a great choice for forest therapy. Birds and insects might greet you when you are visiting the historic site. Today, it is a national historic site. The walls of the main entrance to the fort are made of stones laid using the technique traditionally used to build city gates in China. Over the arched doorway are the characters Hai Men Tian Xian. The gate, barracks, steps, gun platforms, ammunition store, and other structures still remain. The fort has great significance in national defense history. notice that roads are slippery when wet
